Asian medicine is based on the understanding that the body is composed of a balance of electrical and chemical forms of energy.  Although an ancient form of medicine, it has proven quite accurate and useful in treating modern chronic illness.

Although the idea of "balancing our energy"  ("Qi" in Chinese) sounds foreign to most Americans, modern research has shown that although acupuncture is extremely challenging to test in labs, it has been shown to be effective in many treatments, such as nausea in pregnant or chemotherapy patients, pain due to injuries or over-use, and many others.  If you'd like current research information on your health issue, just ask!

ACUPUNCTURE & MEDICINAL HERBS

Acupuncture needles are solid, smooth and fine.  They are sterile and used only once.  Unlike needles used to inject or withdraw a substance, acupuncture needles do not cause the cutting sensation of interdermal needles commonly used in Western medicine.  Sensations tend to be more of movement within, an achiness or heaviness, or a subdued "electrical" feeling.  Most people feel very relaxed and experience some relief from symptoms immediately following their appointment.  Needle-less options are available for small children and those who require it.

Medicinal herbs are prescribed specific to the patient's overall health history, thus reducing the likelihood of side effects.  We know that due to recent recalls, you may be concerned about the quality or use of  products from China.   The herbs used by East Valley Acupuncture are of the highest quality, and are quality-tested inside of the United States by independent labs.

Other treatments you may receive are dietary recommendations, massage, cupping and moxibustion therapy.  Any treatment you receive will be explained in full, and you are always able to decline a modality you are not comfortable with.
